Martin Tyler, who was named Premier League Commentator of the Decade by fans in 2003, has left Sky Sports ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
Martin Tyler leaves Sky Sports after covering many of the Premier League’s biggest moments, from Stan Collymore’s famous winner for Liverpool against Newcastle in 1996 to Man City’s title-winning ‘Aguerooooo’ goal in 2012.
Tyler, 77, left an indelible mark on English football as Sky’s lead Premier League commentator since its inception in 1992, his voice inextricably linked with some of football’s most iconic moments.
Tyler, a well-known English football commentator, has presided over thousands of matches, including the Champions League, World Cup, and European Championship finals.
Jamie Carragher, a member of Liverpool’s 2004-05 UEFA Champions League-winning team and current Sky Sports pundit, has shared memories of his senior employee, Martin Tyler.
The football pundit who appears on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher, reacted on his official Twitter handle, @Carra23, after a statement by Martin Tyler disclosing his departure from Sky Sports.
Carragher replied to a tweet by @SkySportsNews, which was captioned, “Legendary commentator Martin Tyler will leave Sky Sports ahead of the new season after spearheading the company’s Premier League coverage for over 30 years.”
Carragher, a two-time Liverpool player of the season in 1999 and 2005, reflected on the moments of legendary commentator Tyler during Everton’s greatest-ever game against Bayern Munich in 1985 and expressed his gratitude for working with him at Sky Sports for the previous ten years.
He captioned his tweet, “I listened to Martin Tyler’s commentary on Everton’s greatest ever game against Bayern Munich in 1985; he was commentating on my full debut and first goal for Liverpool as an 18-year-old in 1997. I then had the privilege to work alongside him for 10 years, with the highlight being an Origi last-minute derby winner! Martin is one of the all-time legends of the commentary box. Aguerooooo is one of the most iconic commentary lines in the history of the game!”
