Abdul Fatawu Dauda, a former Legon Cities shoot-stopper, has sent an acknowledgement message to his former colleague, Asamoah Gyan.
Fatau Dauda and Asamoah Gyan, the two personalities, both had stints with Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League before hanging up their gloves and boots.
Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars’ all-time leading scorer, announced his retirement from football last Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre while speaking at the Afri-Exim Bank 30th Annual Meeting.
The first Ghanaian player to score a World Cup goal was emotional and wept as he announced his decision and hugged former Ivorian and Chelsea star Didier Drogba on the dais during the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Afri-Exim Bank Africa Trade Gateway Conference.
Asamoah Gyan, 37, is hanging up his boots for good after reaching a significant milestone in his playing career. Baby Jet earned 109 caps for his country while playing in Ligue 1, the Premier League, Serie A, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, and was champion three times with his Emirati club Al Ain, as well as being named African Player of the Year in 2010.
A statement read by Gyan last Tuesday night had a conclusion: “Again, I will put my experience and knowledge to use in the field of coaching, football business, and scouting. I want to thank my beloved country Ghana, my family, my colleagues from school, those from the Colts and Black Stars from 2002 to date, club mates, coaches, and everybody who played a role in my career as a footballer. I say Thank you…..May God Bless us all.”
Fatau Dauda, a colleague of Asamoah Gyan at the Black Stars during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and at Legon Cities, shared a picture of himself and Gyan and sent a farewell message on his official Twitter account, @fataud1.
Fatau tweeted, “Forever icon Baby Jet Asamoah Gyan… Enjoy life after playing active football. Cheers to life! HAPPY RETIREMENT!”
