The Portugal national team played an away game in the European Championship Qualifying Group J game at Laugardalsvollur against Iceland.
Portugal has won all four of its games in Group J of the European Championship Qualifiers, and their most recent victory over Iceland ranked fifth in the group.
After making his 200th appearance for A Selecao das Quinas during their Euro 2024 qualifying match against Iceland, the 38-year-old broke yet another record.
The Guinness Book of Records has acknowledged Cristiano Ronaldo’s accomplishment; the Portugal captain received a certificate in recognition of it prior to his country’s match against Iceland.
After breaking numerous records both on and off the field, the legendary forward Cristiano Ronaldo was inducted into the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame in 2023, forever changing the game of football.
The Al Nassr frontman is the all-time top goalscorer in international football with 122 goals in 200 games to date, including a goal in his last capped game to help his nation remain an undefeated side in the qualifiers of the European Championship.
At the age of 18, Ronaldo made his professional debut for A Selecao das Quinas in 2003. He and his national team won the 2016 European Championships, and he may be considering competing in the competition in next year’s edition of the tournament.
During Portugal’s World Cup quarterfinal game against Morocco in June 2022, Ronaldo appeared in his 196th game to tie Kuwait, Al-Mutawa’s record for the most international football caps by a male player.
After the nail-biting match last Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo also celebrated his incredible achievement with a Guinness World Record certificate.
He stated, “Triumph with a special flavor. Not only for the day it was, for the tribute, for the 200th game… To top it off with a goal, I can’t ask for more. It was spectacular, unforgettable, for everything it generated around the game. I have to thank to the Icelanders, to the federation for the surprise. And to Guinness World Records!”
