Medeama Sporting Club, the winners of the 2022–2023 betPawa Premier League, announced the departure of nine players to Maltese side Sirens FC on Monday, August 21, 2023.
A day before the official announcement of the transfer, the club played their first CAF Champions League game at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, winning 1-0 against Nigerian outfit Remo Stars.
The nine players that have signed professional contracts with the side to begin their European adventures are midfielders Kwasi Donsu and Prosper Owusu Boakye; forwards Charles Agyemang, Frank Boateng, Joshua Agyemang, and Bismark Asare; defenders Daniel Opoku and Moro Muktar; and winger Akadom Mohammed Hafiz.
The reliable team of editors of www.atspo.com can confirm that Kwasi Donsu, Frank Boateng, and Joshua Agyemang have signed a one-year loan deal, while the remaining six players have signed a permanent contract.
The transfer, which appeared to be the largest mass transfer of African players to Europe, received a lot of attention in Ghanaian media, with fans criticising Medeama’s management for engaging in an untimely transfer transaction, citing the team’s participation in the CAF Champions League.
Moses Armah Parker, a steadfast businessman, elaborated on this development of player transfers on Max TV and radio while speaking with esteemed sports presenter Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
“This is part of the Medeama SC plan, and we are looking for another proposal from Europe and Asia, but for now, this is the one that has been completed. I travelled to Malta a few weeks ago and spent several days, concluding, but the process and scouting began a year ago with an official from Sirens FC visiting Ghana to scout for players,” Mr. Parker explained on Max TV.
Mr. Parker, a member of the Black Stars Management Committee in 2014, identified the types of players at the club who are eligible to leave due to CAF inter-club competition.
“Players who have been registered for the CAF Champions League campaign will not be released, but those who went were agreed upon before the 2022–23 League ended, and we hope this will be a breakthrough for the players and also open doors for Ghanaian players from other clubs,” he explained.
