Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, a former Dreams Football Club player, has officially signed a season-long loan deal with Championship side Leicester City.
The 19-year-old completed his medical earlier this week and was officially unveiled on Thursday morning. He failed to secure a place in Sporting’s first team since his debut in August of last year.
Fatawu, who spent the majority of his time with Sporting’s second team, explained in his first interview after joining Leicester what head coach Enzo Maresca told him before agreeing to play at the King Power Stadium.
“I’m so happy. This is an amazing moment for me, and I’m happy to be here. For me, from looking at Leicester and how I felt about the coach, here is the best place for me,” the left-footed winger said.
The Black Stars squad member for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar hopes to mature at Leicester City, indicating that the head coach wants him to play and wants to help him in his career.
Issahaku revealed, “This was the best moment for me to join Leicester. I chose them because I think they can grow me and help me mature. [Enzo Maresca] told me about the plans he has for me and how he wants me to play—how he wants to help me in my football.”
The Black Meteors squad member in Morocco for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations is the latest to join the club, following Daniel Amartey, Jeffery Schlupp, Kamal Sowah, and Nathan Opoku in recent times.
Fatawu Issahaku, the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Best Player, is expected to help Leicester City maintain their lead in the Championship table in his debut game at the King Power Stadium against Hull City.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku began his football career with Steadfast FC, quickly establishing himself as a rising talent in his country.
