Edward John Frank Howe, the Newcastle United manager who took over from Steve Bruce and is under contract until the summer of 2024, has spoken out for the first time about an investigation into Sandro Tonali's illegal betting activity.
Eddie Howe addressed his midfielder’s involvement in an Italian gambling investigation during a pre-match media briefing, as it has hampered the Magpies’ preparations following their return to Premier League action immediately after the international break.
The Magpies confirmed last Wednesday that former AC Milan star Sandro Tonali is under investigation, and the club issued a statement expressing their support for the player and his family.
A section of the club’s statement reads, “Sandro is fully engaging with the investigation and will continue to cooperate with all relevant authorities. He and his family will continue to receive the club’s full support.”
Eddie Howe looks ahead to Saturday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace at St James’ Park, hoping to extend his side’s unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches.
Eddie Howe reacted to Newcastle United having betting partners at a time when Tonali is being investigated for an alleged betting scandal.
“Again, I think it’s difficult for me to comment on. My job is to coach and manage the team; that’s what I’ll do best,” Eddie Howe reacted.
Howe has responded to the Tonali investigation, expressing his support for the midfielder and confirming that he is still eligible to play for Newcastle.
