On Friday night at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the 2022–2023 Ghana Premier League winners, Medeama Sporting Club, will host Algerian powerhouses CR Belouizdad.
After losing to Egyptian giants Al-Ahly last weekend at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo, the Tarkwa-based club will play their first-ever home game in the CAF Champions League group stage.
The Ghanaian team has never competed in a competition organised by the continent’s governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), for which the other teams in the group have a different record.
Medeama Sporting Club must demonstrate its relevance in Group D of the competition after Al-Ahly and CR Belouizdad won their first home games to challenge for first place, leaving the Ghanaian club and Young African at the bottom of the table.
Evans Augustine Adotey, who is at ease as the Mauve and Yellow Lads’ head coach, revealed something during a pre-match press conference last Thursday, November 30, 2023, about their first opponent hosting at home in the competition.
Evans Adotey responded to a question from a journalist from Kumasi’s Boss FM, who wanted to know how the head coach observed their opponent ahead of Friday’s game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Evans Adotey, the 2013 Ghana FA Cup Coach of the Year, emphasised the number of days he had to observe his opponent before the game at home.
“Well, before arriving in Ghana from Egypt, it has taken me (Evans Adotey) the last two days to go through the gameplay between Belouizdad and Young Africans; we have seen a lot, and we have gathered some information from their camp,” Adotey explained.
The two-time Ghana FA Cup winner with Medeama, Evans Adotey, stated that he and his teammates must work hard to compete for the most points in the game against CR Belouizdad.
Evans revealed, “I have to look at my team first; how we want to approach the game; what is the plan; if plan A is not working, what is the way forward?”
