The UEFA Champions League’s Round of 16 draw has been rocked by controversy after a mishap involving Premier League club Manchester United.
United finished top of their group and were originally drawn to face Villarreal in the Round of 16, which should not have been possible as Villarreal qualified from the same group as the English club.
The Red Devils were then seemingly omitted from the teams which were drawn to face Atletico Madrid, despite being one of the teams eligible to face the Spanish champions.
They were eventually drawn against French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, in arguably the toughest tie of the round.
Many observers of the draw were astounded that such a major error had been committed, which some calls for the draw to be redone.
A few conspiracy theorists have insisted that UEFA were desperate to ensure the high-profile matchup between Lionel Messi’s PSG and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Man Utd was drawn.
UEFA have been contacted to clarify the incident but are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
