The BBC African Footballer of the year in 1994 and a member of Atlanta 1996 Gold medal winning team, Emmanuel Amunike has blamed Watford’s marksman Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis after Super Eagles backfire to gain qualification for Qatar 2022.
Dennis has been blasted by Amunike after Super Eagles failed to qualify for Mundial in Qatar which will be coming up in November, Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Black Stars of Ghana at Mooshood Abiola Sports Stadium last Tuesday night which a disastrous incident occurred after the final whistle.
During the first leg in Kumasi, Samuel Chukwueze played the role which was given to Watford’s star in Abuja, Dennis was one of the five players who were not giving the nod by Austin Eguavoen to feature in the reverse fixture at Abuja.
Chukwueze got injured in the 0-0 draw in Kumasi before they played Ghana in Abuja so he was replaced by Dennis, the assistant coach to Eguavoen spoke to Brila FM in Nigeria and he revealed that, “The important thing is to know the strength of your player, to know what he can do with and without the ball.”
He added that the technical team had to always alert Dennis of the role he has been assigned, which he added that, “We called him and reminded him [Dennis] why he has to track back but calling him is not just enough because each player has to understand their responsibility on the pitch. I must admit each player has different abilities, some can defend better than others and that’s why football is a team game”.
