The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to ban some players in the match-fixing scandal involving Ashantigold and Inter Allies has been granted a stay of execution by the Court for Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
On Wednesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a decision lifting the suspension for 21 players who participated in the 2021–2022 Ghana Premier League season.
Following the GFA decision that banned up to 25 players from football for a maximum of 24 months, the Representative body of footballers (FIFPRO) filed the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Swiss-based organization issued its decision on the contentious matter this Wednesday afternoon, August 10, 2022.
The primary case has not yet been decided, hence the ban has not yet received a final decision.
According to reports, GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo indicated that the purpose of the temporary order by CAS was to help the players avoid missing the registration deadline to compete in the forthcoming season.
Richmond Lamptey, a midfielder for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has also been subject to the ban although his future is still uncertain, according to earlier rumours, management has hired a Brazilian attorney to commence legal proceedings at CAS.
Isah Ali, a former player for Inter Allies, was recently invited to join the Nigerian side that will compete in the CHAN qualifiers against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
