Asamoah Gyan has been advised by former Accra Hearts of Oak icon Mohammed Polo the dribbling genius not to compare his circumstances to that of Roger Milla as he strives to represent Ghana at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Polo reported that Roger Milla was still actively playing football at the age of 42 even before being selected for the 1994 World Cup team for Cameroon in the United States of America.
The editors of www.atspo.com wonder if Gyan can truly play to the gallery as Milla demonstrated in the United States in 1994, given that football is for active players.
The same was said by Mohammed Polo, who revealed it in an interview with Kumasi’s Atinka FM, “Is he still playing now, Gyan? We know what he can do when he is active, so if he wants to play again for the Black Stars, he should register with a local team just like Sulley and prove his worth. Everything stops with coach Otto Addo.”
At the eagerly awaited match between Ghana and Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, the group stage will come to an end, Asamoah Gyan, the nation’s all-time leading scorer, will seek retribution after missing a penalty in 2010.
Mohammed Polo contends that the position of the former Sunderland striker is distinct from that of Roger Milla and urges Ghanaians to take it seriously.
In a direct comparison to Milla’s situation at the World Cup of 1994, Polo stated, “Roger Milla did the same and played well in the World Cup, but the question is, are the situations the same? We want to make an impact going to the World Cup, so all the necessities must be explored, but like I said, we must be serious with our football.”
During the World Cup in Qatar later this year, team Ghana will be in Doha, using the Aspire Zone Training facilities as their training headquarters and camping at the luxurious Double Tree by Doha-Al Sadd Hotel.
