Dr. Tony Aubynn, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Committee, has stated that the Black Galaxies are “very ready” to face Nigeria in the CAF Championship of African Nations’ last round of qualification games (CHAN).
Dr. Tony Aubynn made a remark at the GFA Headquarters at mid-morning on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the start of the Official Match Ball Carrier (OMBC) Selection process.
Dr. Aubynn spoke positively about the team’s preparation for the difficult challenge at the end of the month, the Nigerians will want to exact their vengeance for losing the World Cup qualifying match to the senior team of Ghana.
The victor of Ghana’s match against Nigeria, which will take place at Accra Stadium later this month and consist of two legs, will earn a spot in the 2023 CHAN in Algeria, Ghana hasn’t participated in either of the last three CHAN competitions.
The Black Galaxies trounced the Junior Squirrels of Benin at Cape Coast Sports Stadium thanks to goals from three Hearts of Oak players, including captain Gladson Awako, reliable defender Mohammed Alhassan, and Hearts of Oak attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, the mercurial striker for Accra Hearts of Oak, won a 1-0 victory at Port Novo in the second leg to ensure qualification for the Black Galaxies.
On September 3, the Nigerians will host the Black Galaxies in the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja following the first match at Cape Coast Stadium, and Dr. Tony Aubynn is certain that Ghana would qualify before Nigeria.
He revealed this to Citi Sports on Thursday, August 18, 2022, following the event at GFA headquarters, “We are quite ready for Nigeria, and we are not going to relax until we have overcome Nigeria. I know they are very serious about us given the history…we are also motivated to do what we know best”
