For Ghana’s next friendlies and the World Cup in Qatar in a few months, the technical staff of the senior national team, the Black Stars, will select a competent squad.
Ghana has participated in competitive competitions including the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches between Madagascar and the Central African Republic, respectively, after qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.
The team was part of a Four-Nation Tournament played in Japan, referred to as the Kirin Cup Soccer 2022, in which they won the silver medal on penalties.
In those competitive games played by the Black Stars of Ghana, no local goalkeeper could have had a spot in the squad, but the only shot-stopper to have had the slightest opportunity to be included was Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s, Danlad Ibrahim.
At the time, Danlad, together with Augustine Okrah, then playing for Bechem United, could not honour a late call-up into the team when Kotoko was at the last stages of the BetPawa Premier League and needed a win against Medeama away to secure the league trophy.
Jojo Wollacott, Lawrence Ati Zigi, and Abdul Manaf Nurudeen were the goalkeepers present at that time’s senior national team training camp. In the AFCON Qualifiers, Wollacott was used, and Lawrence Ati Zigi made some outstanding saves in the penalty shootout.
Fatawu Dauda, who kept the goalpost when Ghana played against Egypt in Cairo at the Air Defense Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, has chosen a local keeper that could fit into Otto Addo’s squad to Qatar 2022.
Ghana’s first choice at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, who finished his licence D coaching course in September 2021, spoke to Radio Gold Sports Talk Show.
He was asked about Danlad Ibrahim’s splendid performance for the Black Galaxies in their game against Super Eagles B at Cape Coast last Sunday.
He admitted his fine form and suggested a place in the squad ahead of the Mundial in November. He stated, “I know that the goalkeeping department of the Black Stars led by Richard Kingston is working and looking at Danlad Ibrahim. If they have to consider any goalkeeper apart from those playing outside the country, then it should be Danlad Ibrahim. “
