Herbert Amponsah Mensah, a Kumawu native and former Chairman of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has reflected and expressed birthday wishes to the club on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
Asante Kotoko’s contingent has prepared to depart from Khartoum for Ghana, according to credible information gathered by the smart editors of www.atspo.com, the group will pause at Addis Abeba Bole International Airport before landing in Ghana tomorrow morning.
They were supposed to play Accra Hearts of Oak in the season opener of the new BetPawa Premier League 2022/2023 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, but that game has been postponed.
Herbert Mensah, who assumed control of this venerable Ghanaian football club in 1999 under the authority of the Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II and continued to do so under the current Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made an inspiring wish for the team.
They may celebrate their birthday with joy because they are the current and defending BetPawa Premier League champions and are competing in the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League, in which they will face RC Kadiogo in early September 2022.
Herbert highlighted personalities from the club’s history who have performed admirably in their respective roles: previous chairmen, supporters, players, and events that have elevated the club to the ranks of Africa’s best.
He also gave an account of the challenges in the club, emphasis on the test from Accra Hearts of Oak, and the battles in African competitions, especially when he led Kotoko to play in the final of the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 2004.
As the past chairman Herbert Mensah reveals the role of the club’s life patron, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the day that will go down in history as historic, it will be a symbol of blessings for the club’s supporters.
The former Chairman of the club said in a video on the 87th birthday, “I just say happy birthday Kumasi Asante Kotoko is not just a football club, it’s an institution. We have Otumfuo and we are blessed for that.”
