Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has addressed a tweet he sent when Ghana faced Nicaragua on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022.
The former captain of the Black Stars updated his official Twitter handle when Iñaki Williams, a new striker for Ghana, made his first start for the team against Nicaragua in Francisco Artes Carrasco.
Afena-Gyan, who started the match against Brazil, was benched in favour of Iñaki Williams by the head coach. As the game went on, Iñaki put in a strong push, but the Black Stars’ midfielders were unable to find him with their last delivery.
Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of Ghana, tweeted about the new striker’s runs in the game @ASAMOAH GYAN3 “A striker makes a good run and no pass. Very frustrating.”
Many other soccer analysts and media organisations attempted to decode such remark, which was uttered by the all-time leading African World Cup goal scorer, to the least interpretation for all Ghanaians.
The majority of the decoded interpretations were likened to the fact that the Black Stars midfielders were biased towards the new striker getting his first start for Ghana.
When Asamoah Gyan was present at Anane Boateng Studio in Kumasi, it was probably essential to speak with Mr. Kwabena Gyamfi, commonly known as Sir Joe Laka, the head of sports at Kessben Media, concerning the exact interpretation of his Tweet.
Asamoah Gyan explained, “Attackers always run but don’t get the balls from midfielders, they must take risks with the balls to give penetrative passes. And this is what we are lacking in the team. Some players are afraid to give such penetrative passes because they will be insulted if they miss the pass. When it happens that way, I miss the likes of Sulley Muntari, Laryea Kingston, and Michael Essien. You take the risk of the striker not finishing those balls. “
Asamoah again elaborated on the courage of the midfielders at the Black Stars at the moment. He stated, “The midfielders need to get the courage to give penetrative passes to the striker when he takes off. You keep giving the balls and the right pass will break through. “
