Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), celebrated his third year in office and had to dismiss a report by Clancy Atta Poku, a popular Kumasi-based sports journalist.
The Black Stars of Ghana were engaged in friendly games with Brazil and Nicaragua in the late stages of September 2022.
They lost by three goals to zero against Brazil at the Stade Océane in France on the 23rd of September 2022, and at the Estadio Francisco Artes Carrasco in Spain, they defeated Nicaragua by a lone goal four days after playing against Brazil.
In order to gear up ready for the World Cup in November, the Ghana Football Association has visited several influential political individuals in the nation with its president, Kurt Okraku.
The resourceful staff of editors at www.atspo.com has it on record stating that Kurt Okraku and several members of the Association visited President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, and ex-President John Agyekum Kuffuor to present them with replica Black Stars jerseys.
The initial reportage was published by Collins Ata Poku of Sompa FM in Kumasi at 12:35 pm. The official Twitter handle @PapaPoku had a caption, “Got in touch with 3 Majority MPs who told me they were dismayed to find out the Finance Minister paid almost $800,000 to the Ghana Football Association just last week, in spite of all the challenges we face. The money covers their expenditure in the Brazil and Nicaragua games.”
Ghanaians are furious about the economy, particularly the depreciation of the cedi against the dollar and the rise in commodity prices, for which they have slammed the officials of the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Finance, led by Ken Ofori Ata.
The President, while present at court, came out victorious in the ruling of an injunction being lifted on the BetPawa Premier League.
Kurt Okraku reacted to the tweet made by Collins Ata Poku of Sompa FM and had to disregard it as being false, at 3:22 pm, a tweet published at @kurtokraku read, “I have just come out of court to read that the Ministry of Finance gave the Ghana FA USD 800,000 to honour two friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua. FACT check! This is false. Kindly ignore. “
That notwithstanding, the Ghana Football Association officially released a press statement supporting the President, degrading the report and valuing it as frivolous.
