Laryea Kingston, a former Ghanaian international, expects the Black Stars to defeat Uruguay to advance to the knockout round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, is in World Cup Group H in Qatar. Next month in Qatar, a group of four teams—Portugal, Uruguay, South Korea, and Ghana—will compete there.
The Black Stars, who are back in the competition after skipping the 2018 edition in Russia, face Portugal on November 24 in their opening game in Group H before facing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2, respectively.
Before departing for Qatar for the World Cup, the Black Stars will play Switzerland in a friendly international match on November 17 after playing two practice matches against Brazil and Nicaragua to get the team in condition.
The Black Stars will compete at locations including Stadium 974 in Doha, against Portugal, against South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, and the final group stage match against Uruguay at the Al Wakrah, Al Janoub Stadium during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which runs from November 20 to December 18, 2022.
Laryea Kingston, who never played in the World Cup during his playing career, believes Ghana must score against Uruguay as retaliation for Luis Suarez’s denial of an African team’s best chance to advance to the World Cup semi-finals.
The irony of the situation is that Diego Forlan, who tied Kelvin Prince Boateng’s goal, won’t be available for Qatar in 2022 while Luis Suarez was named in the Uruguayan team that has been released.
Last Thursday, October 27, 2022, Laryea Kingston spoke with Graphic Sports about the likelihood that the Black Stars will advance from Group H in Qatar in November.
When asked about the team’s possibilities, Kingston told Graphic Sports that the Stars still had unfinished business with Portugal and Uruguay and that they needed that as an incentive to qualify out of the competition’s group stage.
Kingston revealed in the interview, “It is going to be interesting at the World Cup because I see our games with Portugal and Uruguay as an opportunity for the boys to perform beyond their expectations. Against Portugal, the team must see it as a chance to seek revenge after losing to them in 2014, but Uruguay’s game will be something else. “
Laryea stressed an automatic win against Uruguay. He stressed, “I believe the team must do everything to beat Uruguay to put the entire continent at peace after what Suarez did to Africa in 2010. It is possible, and I believe having that at the back of their minds alone should be enough to win that match.”
