The Ghana Football Association’s chief of staff has sued Jeffrey Asare, Sompa FM, and others over suspicions of “chopped cash” at the 2022 World Cup.
Michael Osekre, the president of Vision FC, and the chief of staff under Simeon Kurt-Okraku have sued Jeffrey Asare and Sompa FM for defamation, the FA’s first action following the press release that Ghanaians should desist from giving false information about the Black Stars of Ghana in Qatar.
The unofficial member of the country’s football governing body, GFA, has sued the media outlet after allegations made by Jeffrey Asare on Sompa FM claiming that Ghana FA chief of staff Michael Osekre earned $50,000 as an appearance fee for the 2022 World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association instructed its lawyers earlier this week to take legal action against anyone discovered defaming the association, its officials, and products, and destroying the Black Stars brand, as well as the media platforms deployed to do so.
Even though Jeffery Asare delivered an unconditional apology to Osekre, the Ghana Football Association’s chief of staff and a board member of Vision FC, 24 hours after his presentation on the sports show, it was insufficient for the FA and its chief of staff, who had to resort to legal action.
Last Friday, December 16, 2022, a writ of summons from the High Court of Justice with suit number C2/07/23 was successfully delivered in the Ashanti Region to the Sompa FM office in the Suame constituency and Jeffery Asare.
This marked the first legal action taken after the Ghana Football Association issued a stern warning to those who have targeted the governing body with malicious and defamatory claims about the Black Stars, saturated with the “manufacture of a non-existent scandal” following the team’s exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The unforgettable team of editors at www.atspo.com can confidently state that this is the Ghana Football Association’s second reaction to journalists from Sompa FM after the President quashed information released by Ata Poku of Sompa FM prior to Ghana’s trip to Qatar for the World Cup.
