The management of the Porcupine Warriors has been advised by former Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer Samuel Opoku Nti to sign former Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan.
Despite having a year left on his contract with Accra Hearts of Oak, Mohammed Alhassan is said to have been given permission by the team’s new manager, Slavko Matic, to leave.
Mohammed Alhassan, who played in a game under Matic and two matches under former coach Samuel Boadu, is a free agent in the January 2023 transfer window, so Laud Zico Opoku Nti has given a hint to Asante Kotoko’s management to get him at the club.
Opoku Nti shares the same sentiment as the Kotoko fans who packed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Great Olympics: his former club’s backline lacks a leader and an experienced centre-back, and if there’s one defender Kotoko should consider signing, it should be a free agent Mohammed Alhassan.
Zico Opoku Nti, a member of Ghana’s 1992 African Cup of Nations runner-up team, spoke to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM. On the Tuesday edition of Today’s Sports, he told Sometymer that the addition of Mohammed Alhassan to the Porcupine Warriors’ defence will benefit the club because of his comprehensive league experience.
“If Kotoko is able to sign Mohammed Alhassan, he will help the team. He has rich experience, and he will augment the back line if he joins. Kotoko needs a tough and experienced defender to guide and control the back seat,” Poku Nti explained on Oyerepa FM.
Mohammed Alhassan spent five years with Hearts, where he managed to establish himself as one of the top centre-backs in Ghana and contributed to the team’s five championships.
The former West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) central defender, Mohammed Alhassan, has played 79 games for the rainbow outfit in all competitions and scored a goal during a stint with the champions of the MTN FA Cup.
