A lottery and gaming company called Alpha Lotto Limited has given FIFA U-20 World Cup-winning coach Sellas Tetteh, also known as “Borbor,” a cash donation of GH50, 000.00.
In December 2022, the only local coach to win a FIFA Cup at any of their competitions, the FIFA World Cup U-20 in Egypt, told Obama of Sports Obama TV that despite making history, he had been overlooked.
Sellas Tetteh told Obama TV, “I have been discussing with Kurt Okraku [the Ghana Football Association president] because since we, the technical team, won the World Cup, they didn’t pay us any money. They didn’t pay us any money. There was a document for it. I went and discussed that with Kurt Okraku. At least they were supposed to give us $4000.”
The U-20 FIFA World Cup-winning coach, Sellas Tetteh, was in the news after his deteriorating health condition became public and his remuneration was not released to his personal account.
The decision to give the coach such a donation, according to Emmanuel Senanu, a member of Alpha Lotto Limited’s management team, came after learning about his health situation.
Mr. Raymond Nukamewor, who presented the dummy cheque on behalf of officials of Alpha Lotto, stated, “Alpha Lotto was heartbroken when we heard the coach and a national asset lamenting in the media about his hardship. Thus, as part of Alpha Lotto’s corporate social responsibility, we present our cheque of GHC 50,000 to “Borbor,” as he is affectionately called. We hope our widow’s mite will go a long way to help in paying his medical bills and also help in his general well-being.”
Mr. Nukamewor emphasized the significance of honoring our heroes while they are still alive and appealed to other well-intentioned Ghanaians, both private citizens and corporate entities, to assist Coach Tetteh.
Sellas Tetteh, who was ecstatic and enthusiastic about the gesture, expressed his gratitude to Alpha Lotto, saying, “It feels wonderful to be remembered by people like you, especially at this point in my life. Thank you very much.”
