Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the defending betPawa Premier League champion, unveiled two newly signed players before thrashing Kotoku Royals in Week 14.
Rashid Nortey, formerly of Medeama FC, was introduced, and Matheus Medeiros De Souza, the latest Brazilian to be signed by the current management under Nana Yaw Amponsah at the Red Army.
Before Sunday’s match between Kotoko and Kotoku Royals at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which they won 5-1, the former Paju Citizen and SCA Steaua marksman was introduced to the crowd.
Asante Kotoko confirmed the acquisition of Brazil with the following statement: “Matheus Medeiros De Souza has joined Asante Kotoko for a six-month deal with a plus one-year option to extend. The enterprising left-footed forward is expected to boost our striking department in our quest to achieve our season target with goals and assists, which are his trademarks.”
Matheus Medeiros De Souza joins Fabio Gama Dos Santos and Michael Vinicius Silva de Morais at Kotoko, with Gama as an offensive midfielder and Vinicius as a striker.
Fabio Gama played two seasons for the Porcupine Warriors and was instrumental in helping Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum win the 2021-2022 betPawa Premier League. He was the decider in Ghana’s Super Clash when he won a penalty at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
In contrast to Fabio Gama, Michael Vinicius’ contract with Nana Yaw Amponsah’s management was mutually terminated after only three months.
Vinicius signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Kotoko in March, and on his debut, in May 2022, he scored after coming on as a substitute in the Porcupine Warriors’ 4-0 defeat of Bechem United in the Premier League.
Before he left the country, Michael Vinicius had played only 75 minutes of football for the Kumasi-based outfit, scoring twice.
With Matheus Medeiros De Souza being a third Brazilian under the management of Nana Yaw Amponsah, will he be like Fabio Gama or Michael Vincius in the team set up by Seidu Zerbo?
