Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, a striker for Accra Hearts of Oak, signed a three-year contract with Swiss side FC Zurich in the early days of January 2023.
The striker, after being part of the Black Stars’ final squad for the World Cup in Qatar, had a tussle over contract extensions with the management of the club but signed a contract extension at the club until the end of the 2022 African Nations Championships (CHAN), which was staged in Algeria, was over before joining his new club.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh played for the Black Galaxies in the CHAN competition, scored a goal against Sudan, and was shown a red card, making him ineligible to feature for his side in the quarterfinal game against Niger.
The prolific striker’s contract with FC Zurich, a Swiss powerhouse, made Hearts of Oak laugh all the way to the bank. Upon completion of the transfer, Zurich paid the Phobians a training and compensation fee of about US$150,000.
The current winner of the SWAG Footballer of the Year (Home) award will not be seen in the betPawa Premier League after his last game for Accra Hearts of Oak against Karela United on November 13th, 2022, match week 6 of the 2022-2023 Premier League season.
The double-footed forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, since joining Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2019/2020 league season after he failed a trial with Asante Kotoko, has featured in 62 Premier League games. He can take delight in 13 Premier League goals, the highest of which was in the 2021–2022 season with 8 goals.
