The betPawa Premier League’s 18th week began on Friday, February 17th, 2023, and ended on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, at nine league centres throughout Ghana.
After nine league games in week 18, 15 goals were scored at all league centres, with four scored by away teams and 11 scored by home teams.
Week 18 of the season saw five home teams win and two away teams win; there were also two drawn games, with Nsoatreman’s home game against Kotoko being the only one without a goal.
It sounds much more interesting in Week 18 that the two teams that won away were teams from the Brong Ahafo Region: Aduana Stars won at the Accra Sports Stadium and Berekum Chelsea won at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
Nurudeen Abdulai, the new defender for Medeama, scored his second goal for the team in the 40th minute, and Joshua Agyemang, in the 70th minute, got his first goal of the season after twelve appearances for his side as they defeated Legon Cities by two unanswered goals at Ackoon Park.
Nsoatreman earned their second home draw in ten games against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Nana Prof. Amoah Kromansah II Stadium, while Asante Kotoko ended their away losing streak after defeats to Karela United and Dreams FC. They played to a goalless draw, making it the only fixture in Week 18 to have no goal scored.
Accra Lions drew 1-1 with Kotoku Royals at the Accra Sports Stadium; in-form Francis Andy Kumi put the visitors ahead in the 30th minute to earn his fourth goal since joining from Bechem United; and Samari Salifu got his seventh goal of the season to end in a draw.
Tamale City shared the most home points with Karela United. After Tamale City lost to Karela United in the first round of the season, they won against the Aiyinase lads at the Tamale Sports Stadium, and Isaac Mensah, in his first season in the betPawa Premier League, got his fifth goal for Tamale City.
Isaac Opoku Agyemang, a former striker for Ashanti Gold Football Club, scored in his debut game for Samartex, and red-hot Emmanuel Keyekeh got a brace as they disintegrated Real Tamale United (R.T.U.) at Nsenkyire Arena for Keyekeh to be nominated the Most Valuable Player.
Berekum Chelsea defeated King Faisal in their first home game at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Berekum Chelsea’s Afriyie Mezack scored his 10th goal of the season in the 7th minute to maintain his lead at the top scorers’ table of the betPawa Premier League. At the same time, King Faisal remained in the relegation zone.
Joseph Addo kept an eighth clean sheet for Aduana FC as they won 2-0 against Accra Hearts of Oak at Accra Sports Stadium. Isaac Mensah, formerly of New Edubiase FC and Legon Cities, got his third goal of the season when he scored at the 47th and 64th-minute marks.
Dreams FC won their second consecutive home game as well as their second consecutive home game against Bibiani Gold Stars, as Agyenim Boateng Mensah scored his sixth goal and scored in each of his last two games for Dreams FC. Agyenim was nominated “Best Player” at the Theater of Dreams in Dawu.
Hafiz Konkoni, a former Bolga All Stars striker, scored his eighth goal of the season after Abdul Karim put Bechem United ahead at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Accra Great Olympics have gone winless in their last three games, losing two in a row.
