Mauricio Roberto Pochettino Trossero will take charge of his 354th English Premier League game with a third Premier League club.
Jürgen Klopp and his Liverpool team will face Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, August 13, 2023, following Brentford’s match against Tottenham Hotspurs.
Jürgen Klopp is concerned about the threat posed by Chelsea’s unbeaten preseason record, as both teams are in transition and looking for a fresh start after a disappointing 2022-23 season.
Both teams have elected new captains ahead of the new season, but Liverpool has a better historical record against Chelsea, with 84 victories to Chelsea’s 65.
Jürgen Klopp is wary of what the Argentine has put in place in the short time since he arrived at Stamford Bridge, especially given that Chelsea has won 20 games in the Premier League’s opening weekends, more than any other team in the competition.
Jürgen Klopp, the German tactician, stated in a pre-match press conference last Saturday that his Liverpool team must be “absolutely ready” for their trip to Chelsea on Sunday, predicting a dangerous opponent due to the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.
Klopp told Sky Sports, “Poch is a top manager, so they will show up; we have to be ready. We have to be absolutely ready. The football they played, you can see it—Poch is there.”
Klopp explained how his previous encounters with the Argentine while coaching at Tottenham Hotspur mirrored the similarities he has instilled in the Chelsea team since his arrival on July 1, 2023.
“We played against Mauricio often when he was at Tottenham, so you can see a lot of similarities from that and in the end, we don’t know exactly,” Klopp revealed.
