Young Africans coach, Argentine international Miguel Ángel Gamondi, revealed the error that his team rectified in the game last Friday at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Young Africans of Tanzania played their third group game of the CAF Champions League and their second away game, and they earned a point for the second time after drawing at home against Al-Ahly.
Pacome Zouzoua of Ivory Coast scored in the 35th minute after Jonathan Sowah had given the home team the lead with a penalty kick.
Gamondi’s team has two points after three games, with two home games and one away game remaining to ensure qualification to the next round of the competition.
The recently parted manager of CR Belouizdad noted in the pre-match presser last Thursday that his team made mistakes in the competition’s opening games.
Miguel Gamondi told the media prior to Friday’s draw between Medeama at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, saying, “We must learn from our mistakes and hope to turn things around.”
The 60-year-old Argentine was asked if his team was able to correct the mistakes they had made in their previous games during their drawn game by Atakorah Raphael, an editor of www.atspo.com, during the post-match press conference last Friday.
Gamondi explained, “Yes, I’m happy; we rectified a lot; it’s only the issue about the penalty. I cannot say it was a mistake; it was a long pass to a player, and the defender challenged. Honestly, I cannot say it was a mistake.”
The head coach was explicit about a mistake his team eventually rectified to keep Medeama from scoring a goal that would have cost his team the point they earned at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“We made a lot of corrections in our game against Medeama, even though football is a game of mistakes. We were aware that Medeama poses a serious risk to set pieces, but we had it under perfect control,” Gamondi added.
