H.E. Ambassador Imane Ouaadil attributed Morocco’s unprecedented World Cup run to head coach Walid Regragui.
Last Saturday’s World Cup victory by the Atlas Lions of Morocco over the Portuguese was a stunning accomplishment.
They were the first African team to reach the World Cup round of 16 and the first to reach the semi-finals.
When Morocco faces France in the World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, it will be the biggest match in their history.
According to the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, the former Wydad Athletic coach Walid Regragui has given the team a fresh attitude and spirit that has helped them succeed on the field.
In an exclusive interview with Happy 98.9FM, the ambassador said, “As a Moroccan and a supporter of the national team, I’d like to say that the difference is the coach.” Somehow Regragui has managed to give another spirit to the team.
Imane emphasized that Walid Regragui, the head coach, is willing to help and provide comfort and that we have never seen some players play with such guts as they are doing in this World Cup competition.
She stated, “They are gathering around him like a father figure for them; they turn to him, and he is very patient. They are different, and we have discovered a new Morocco team. They are not trying to show off; there is no individual play, and it’s all about teamwork.”
Imane Ouaadil, the ambassador, continued by saying that Moroccans are proud of the history the team has accomplished, regardless of how they fared against France in the semifinals.
She emphasized, “Our chances of winning have improved. Nothing can happen if we have beaten Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. Anything can happen, and we are confident. Morocco has already won, irrespective of whatever happens. If we win Morocco, we won’t be able to sleep for a year.”
